FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, November 22, 2006 - At approximately 16:00 hrs on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, sixty inmates from Unit 1 and nine inmates from Unit 4 at Atlantic Institution refused to lock up in their cell.

As a result, the Institutional Crisis Center was opened at 16:00 hrs and negotiations have been ongoing.

The rest of the inmates in the institution who are not involved are presently secured in their cell.

The RCMP has been notified.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution housing 220 inmates located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick .
