FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, January 2, 2007 - At approximately 22:30 hrs on Monday, January 1st 2007, sixty-eight inmates from Unit 2 at Atlantic Institution refused to lock up in their cells.

The disturbance ended without injuries or damages at approximately 10:00 on January 2nd 2007, when inmates voluntarily returned to their cells. Sixty-eight inmates from Unit 2 are currently on lockdown status.

The Correctional Service of Canada will examine circumstances surrounding the incident.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
