FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, January 2, 2007 - On Saturday, December 30, 2006, at approximately 14:20, one inmate was assaulted in the kitchen at Atlantic Institution. He had to be transferred to outside hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries and returned to the institution on the following day. One inmate has been placed in segregation while the investigation is ongoing.

The RCMP, along with the Correctional Service of Canada, will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
