FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, January 8, 2007 - At approximately 19:00 on the evening of Monday January 8, 2007, nine inmates from Unit 4 at Atlantic Institution refused to return to their cells.

Negotiations are currently underway. The disturbance is currently peaceful and there are no indications of injuries or damages.

Correctional Service Canada will be reviewing all circumstances leading up to this incident.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick, which currently houses 218 inmates.
