FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, January 9, 2007 - At approximately 19:00 on the evening of Monday January 8, 2007, nine inmates from Unit 4 at Atlantic Institution refused to return to their cells.

The disturbance ended peacefully at approximately 22:40 on Monday January 8 when all nine inmates returned voluntarily to their cells. There was no use of force, injuries or damages. Nine inmates in Unit 4 are on lockdown status. All other inmates have returned to normal routine. Correctional Service Canada will be reviewing all circumstances leading up to this incident. Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick, which currently houses 218 inmates.
