FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, February 8, 2007 - At approximately 09:10, in the morning of Thursday, February 8, 2007, an inmate was found hanging in his cell, at the Atlantic Institution, in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.

Institutional healthcare staff was immediately called to the cell. The RCMP was also contacted.

The offender was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical doctor.

The identity of the inmate will be made public once relatives have been informed.

Correctional Service of Canada will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of this incident.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
