FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, May 23, 2007 - On Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at approximately 11:45 hours, one inmate was assaulted at the Atlantic Institution. Several inmates were involved in this incident which resulted in two inmates transferred to the outside hospital for treatment.

The RCMP, along with the Correctional Service of Canada, will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
