FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RENOUS, NB, July 17, 2007 - On Friday evening, July 13, 2007, 59 inmates housed in Unit 1 at Atlantic Institution were placed on a lockdown status.

The lockdown was resumed as a preventive measure to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

The facility will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick, which currently houses 214 inmates.
