SPRINGHILL, NS, January 25, 2008 - On Thursday, January 17, 2008, a television set destined for an offender housed at Springhill Institution was intercepted and a large quantity of drugs was confiscated.
The intercepted drugs included 44 ecstasy pills, 40, 10mg morphine pills, 120 hash oil papers, 8 grams of hashish, 16 marijuana joints, 18.35 grams marijuana. The total estimated institutional value of the drugs is approximately $5,000.
The Codiac RCMP is investigating this matter.
Preventing drugs from entering our institutions is an ongoing challenge, however, it is the diligent work of staff and in many cases the police that help us tackle this challenge. CSC has a zero tolerance policy on illegal drugs in institutions.
Springhill Institution is a medium-security federal penitentiary, housing 463 male offenders.
