FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPRINGHILL, NS, April 30, 2008 - On April 29, 2008, Blaine Wile, an inmate at Springhill Institution died of apparent natural causes while in custody.

Mr. Wile was 40 years old and serving a life sentence for second degree murder. Next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner are called in to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Springhill Institution is a medium-security federal penitentiary, housing 480 male offenders.
