FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

RENOUS, NB, July 7, 2008 - On July 6, 2008, Michael Kenneth Wilmot, an inmate from Atlantic Institution died of an apparent suicide while in custody.

Mr. Wilmot was 24 years old and serving a 4-year 11-month sentence for aggravated assault. Next of kin has been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies in custody, the RCMP and coroner are called in to investigate. In addition, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
