FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCKDOWN AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

RENOUS, NB, July 18, 2008 - On Friday, June 18, 2008, 60 inmates housed in Unit 1 at Atlantic Institution were placed on a lockdown status due to a disturbance.

The lockdown was put in place as a preventative measure to ensure the continued safety and security of the public, staff and inmates.

CSC is currently evaluating damage to the unit. No staff or inmates were injured.

The Unit will reopen once institutional management determines that it is safe to do so.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick, which currently houses 230 inmates.
