FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

RENOUS, NB, October 28, 2008 - On Saturday, October 25, 2008 at approximately 21:00 hrs, an inmate was assaulted by other inmates at Atlantic Institution. The injured inmate was immediately escorted to the nearest health care facility in order to stabilize his condition. They are not life threatening injuries.

In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce future incidents, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this event and take action where necessary.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the Village of Renous, New Brunswick.
