FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ASSAULT AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

RENOUS, (New Brunswick), December 15, 2008 - On Monday December 15, 2008 at approximately 13:20 hrs, an inmate was assaulted by another inmate at Atlantic institution. The injured inmate was immediately escorted to the nearest health care facility in order to stabilize his condition. They are not life threatening injuries.

In order to improve its practices to prevent and reduce further incidents, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this event and take action when necessary.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
