Springhill, (Nova Scotia), January 7, 2009 - On Sunday January 4, 2009, a large quantity of drugs was confiscated at Springhill institution. Correctional Services of Canada staff seized the drugs during a routine search of the visiting area.
The intercepted drugs included: 44.2 grams of marijuana, 7.2 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy), 12 MS Cotin 100 mg and 5 grams of cocaine. The total estimated value of the drugs is approximately $7600.
The Springhill Police Service and the North Cumberland Street Crime Unit are investigating the incident.
Preventing drugs from entering into our institutions is an ongoing challenge. CSC has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders, visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs and searches of buildings and cells.
