LOCKDOWN AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

RENOUS, N.B, February 6, 2009 – At 8:30 on Friday, February 6, 2009 37 inmates form Unit 1 at Atlantic Institution were returned to their cells with the assistance of the Institutional Emergency Response Team as instructed by the Warden.

The incident began at approximately 22:30 on Thursday, February 5, 2009 when 37 inmates from Unit 1 refused to return to their cells. There are no reported damages or injuries to staff or inmates.

Ensuring the safety and security of our institutions, staff and public remains the highest priority in the operations of Correctional Service of Canada.

Unit 1 at the Institution has been places on lockdown status until such a time that management determines it is safe to reopen.
