LOCKDOWN ENDS AT SPRINGHILL INSTITUTION
Springhill, (Nova Scotia), March 6, 2009– Effective March 6, 2009, the lockdown at Springhill Institution has been lifted and the Institution has returned to normal operation.
The Institution was placed on lockdown to facilitate an exceptional search following the discovery of live ammunition rounds in the parking lot outside the perimeter fence. No additional ammunition was found as a result of the search.
Scheduled visits have resumed.
Safety of the public, staff and inmates continues to be the highest priority of the Correctional Service of Canada.
