Assaults at Atlantic Institution

RENOUS – On Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 at approximately 20:35 hrs, two inmates were assaulted at Atlantic Institution.

The injured inmates were both escorted to the nearest health care facility in order to stabilize their condition. The injuries are not life threatening injuries. Both inmates have since returned to the Institution.

In order to prevent future incidents for occurring, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this event and take corrective action where necessary.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security institution located in the Village of Renous, New Brunswick.
