FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 28, 2009
Springhill Institution has been put in lockdown in order to complete the search for an unauthorized object.
The lockdown was ordered after an anonymous handwritten note was received indicating that an unauthorized object could be on the premises.
Visits and programs have since been cancelled until further notice, but contractors are still on site. The Institution will reopen at the earliest opportunity.
At this time, CSC is not in a position to provide more details regarding this situation.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
Springhill Institution is a medium-security federal penitentiary, housing 421 male offenders.
