FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ALTERCATION AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

Renous, NB, July 8, 2009 – On Saturday, July 4th, 2009, at approximately 10:45 hrs, two inmates were involved in a physical altercation at Atlantic Institution.

One of the inmates was escorted to the nearest health care facility where it was determined that his injuries were not life threatening.

In order to prevent future incidents from occurring, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this event and take corrective action where necessary.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
