FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INMATE ASSAULT AT DORCHESTER PENITENTIARY

Dorchester, New Brunswick, January 5, 2010 – On Friday, January 1, 2010, at approximately 3:40 p.m., an inmate was assaulted at Dorchester Penitentiary.

The injured inmate was escorted to the nearest health care facility in order to stabilize his condition. His injuries are not life threatening. The inmate has been returned to the penitentiary.

In order to prevent future incidents from occurring, Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances surrounding this event and take corrective action where necessary.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium security institution located in the Village of Dorchester, New Brunswick.
