Springhill, Nova Scotia - March 31, 2010 - On Tuesday, March 30, 2010, a significant quantity of contraband was confiscated at Springhill Institution. Correctional Service Canada staff seized the contraband during a search of an inmate.
The intercepted contraband included 24.5 grams of hash with a total estimated institutional value of $2,450.
The Springhill Police Department is investigating the incident.
Preventing contraband from entering our institutions is an ongoing challenge. CSC has a number of tools available that are consistently used in our efforts to control the flow of drugs into our institutions. These include such things as searches of offenders, visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs and searches of buildings and cells.
Springhill Institution is a medium-security federal penitentiary situated in Springhill, Nova Scotia. It houses 413 male offenders.
