FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH OF AN INMATE AT ATLANTIC INSTITUTION

Renous, NB, May 14, 2010 – On May 14, 2010 an inmate from Atlantic Institution died of an apparent suicide while in custody. The inmate was transported to Miramichi Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 01:48 hrs.

Details about the inmate cannot be released until next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the police and coroner have been notified. The Correctional Service of Canada will also review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
