FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Assault at Atlantic Institution

Renous, NB, June 25, 2010 – On Thursday, June 24, 2010 at approximately 22:25, an inmate was assaulted at Atlantic Institution.

The assaulted inmate was escorted to the nearest health care facility to be assessed and receive treatments for his injuries.

The incident is being investigated by the RCMP and Correctional Service Canada.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, inmates and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Atlantic is a maximum-security institution located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
