Dorchester, New Brunswick, July 5, 2010 On Tuesday, June 29, 2010, a large quantity of drugs and tobacco products were confiscated from an inmate returning to Dorchester Penitentiary from an escorted temporary absence.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC) seized a total of five (5) packages containing 55 (40 mg) dilaudid pills, 18 grams of hydromorphone granules, 14 grams of marijuana, 106 grams of tobacco and a package of tobacco rolling papers.
The estimated institutional value of these items is approximately $17,680.
CSC has a zero tolerance policy on illegal drugs in its institutions and has a number of tools available that are consistently used in its efforts to control the flow of drugs into institutions. These tools include searches of offenders and visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs and searches of buildings and cells.
Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium-security federal penitentiary situated in the Village of Dorchester, New Brunswick. It currently houses 450 male offenders.
