FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Assault at Atlantic Institution

Renous, NB, February 25, 2011 - On Thursday, February 24, 2011, at approximately 20:25, an inmate was assaulted at Atlantic Institution.

The assaulted inmate was escorted to the nearest health care facility to be assessed and receive treatment for his injuries.  He has since returned to the institution.

The incident is being investigated by the RCMP and Correctional Service Canada.

Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, inmates and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.

Atlantic Institution is a maximum-security facility located in the village of Renous, New Brunswick.
