FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DEATH OF AN INMATE AT DORCHESTER PENITENTIARY

Dorchester, New Brunswick, February 26, 2011 – On February 26, at approximately 9:10 am, inmate Roch Thériault, incarcerated at Dorchester Penitentiary, was found unresponsive in his cell by correctional staff, victim of an apparent assault. He was later pronounced dead.

As in all cases where an individual dies while in custody, the RCMP and coroner have been called to investigate. Correctional Service Canada is also conducting an investigation into this incident.

Dorchester Penitentiary is currently under total lockdown until further notice to facilitate ongoing investigations.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium-security federal institution situated in the village of Dorchester, New Brunswick.
