CONTRABAND INTERCEPTED AT DORCHESTER PENITENTIARY

Dorchester, NB, August 4, 2011 – On Tuesday, August 2, 2011, a large quantity of contraband was intercepted by a CSC canine unit outside the walls of Dorchester Penitentiary.

A total of 16 bales of tobacco, 223 grams of hashish, one (1) cell phone and one (1) cell phone charger were seized. The estimated institutional value of these items is approximately $41,500.

Preventing contraband from entering our institutions is an ongoing challenge. CSC has a number of tools that are consistently used to control the flow of contraband into our institutions. These include searches of offenders and visitors, ion scanners, drug dogs and searches of buildings and cells.

Dorchester Penitentiary is a medium-security federal facility situated in the Village of Dorchester, New Brunswick. It currently houses 450 male offenders.
