Dorchester, NB, August 17 2011 – An inmate has escaped from Westmorland Institution. Inmate Michael Garnett, 29, was unaccounted for during a regular count of the inmates shortly after midnight on August 17, 2011.
Michael Garnett is a first time Federal offender serving a total aggregate sentence of 2 years six months for: Assault use of force; Theft under; Trespassing at night; Possession of schedule II substance; Break, Enter and Commit; Fail to attend court; Fail to comply with probation order; Fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking.
He is a male Caucasian with blue eyes and brown hair. He is 191 cm (6' 3") tall and weighs 90 kg (199 lbs).
The police have been notified and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will continue to work with them in an effort to locate the offender as quickly as possible. CSC reviews the circumstances surrounding all escapes and takes action where necessary.
Westmorland Institution is a minimum-security federal institution situated in Dorchester, New Brunswick. It currently houses 246 inmates.
