FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Inmate Apprehended After Escape From Westmorland Institution

Dorchester, NB, August 19 2011 – Michael Garnett, an inmate who had escaped from Westmorland Institution on August 17, was apprehended by police in the evening of Thursday, August 18. He was immediately transferred to a medium security facility.

Michael Garnett is a first time Federal offender serving a total aggregate sentence of 2 years six months for: Assault use of force; Theft under; Trespassing at night; Possession of schedule II substance; Break, Enter and Commit; Fail to attend court; Fail to comply with probation order; Fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking.

The RCMP and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) are cooperating in the investigation.

CSC will review the circumstances surrounding the escape and take action where necessary.

Westmorland Institution is a minimum security institution situated in Dorchester, New Brunswick. It currently houses 246 inmates.
