FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HAMILTON, ON, March 15, 2004 - Offender Walter Jacobson has been released today on Statutory Release. He will be under supervision at a Hamilton area community correctional facility.
A comprehensive and intensive supervision plan for Mr. Jacobson has been developed in consultation with the Hamilton police and with input from a number of community agencies including the Circles of Support program and the Citizen's Advisory Committee.
"We have reviewed the release plan in detail and will continue to work closely with Correctional Service of Canada", Deputy Chief, Ken Leenderts stated: "We have an excellent relationship with our community partners and we will continue to work together for the safety of our community."
As with all conditional releases, public safety remains the number one consideration. Statutory release is a step towards a gradual, safe and supervised return to the community. Federal legislation mandates the release of federal offenders to the community on statutory release at two-thirds of their sentence in order to control an offender's adjustment to the community under supervision.
