FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, May 6, 2004 - Najib Anwar, a 56 year old first time offender serving a life sentence for First Degree Murder was pronounced dead by the coroner in his cell at approximately 5:20 am on the morning of May 1, 2004. The Joint Police Forces Penitentiary Squad is investigating and is treating the death as having been from natural causes. Foul play is not suspected. The range where this inmate lived has returned to a normal routine.

A coroner's inquest will be convened at a later date.
