FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, Ontario, July 26, 2004 - At approximately 2030 hrs. on July 25, 2004 an inmate at Kingston Penitentiary was assaulted.

Medical examination indicates he received blows to the head and one shallow stab wound to the back. The institution was locked down.

The inmate was escorted to outside hospital. Injuries sustained are non life threatening.

With the exception of the Upper F range where the assault occurred, the institution returned to normal operations at the beginning of the work day today. Upper F range will return to normal operations following a thorough search and assessment of the situation.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary squad continue to investigate this incident.
