KINGSTON, ONTARIO, August 5, 2004 - On Thursday, August 5, staff at the Portsmouth Community Correctional Centre noticed a suspicious object on the grounds of the facility. The Kingston Police were immediately contacted.
The Ontario Provincial Police were called to assist in the inspection of the object. It was determined that the suspicious object was a light ballast and posed no concerns. The Portsmouth Centre had not received any threats and there is no reason to believe that there is any mischief involved. However, given the nature of the object the Police were contacted.
The Correctional Service of Canada takes any perceived threat seriously and is committed to ensuring public safety.
