FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, December 29, 2004 - At approximately 1900 hrs on December 27, 2004 an inmate at Joyceville Institution was stabbed in the back. The inmate was immediately escorted to the institutional hospital, then transported to Kingston General Hospital. His injuries are not considered life threatening although he remained under observation for the night. The inmate returned to Joyceville on December 28, and is in stable condition.

The institution was on a modified routine on December 28, and has since returned to normal operations.

The aggressor has not been identified, however the Joint Forces Penitentiary squad continues to investigate. CSC will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
