FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, March 29, 2005 - On March 27, 2005, at 2035 hours staff were notified that Braden Nugent, a 29-year-old offender, was in medical distress in his cell. Staff provided CPR until the arrival of ambulance crews and paramedics. However attempts were unsuccessful and the offender was pronounced dead. This offender was serving a double life sentence for 2nd degree murder, aggravated assault, arson and robbery. The next of kin has been notified.

The OPP Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has been notified and has begun an investigation.

Cause of death is unknown at this time. A coroner's inquest will be held as is the case in any death in the institution.
