FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, July 29, 2005 - At approximately 1645 hours on July 28, 2005, an inmate was stabbed at Collins Bay Institution. He was transported by ambulance to Kingston General Hospital Emergency Department for treatment and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred in the main corridor during movement for the evening meal. The Institution is locked down to facilitate a search for weapons and contraband.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad was contacted and is currently investigating the incident. Criminal charges have been laid. The Correctional Service of Canada will also conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.

The Institution will be closed for visits and other activities until further notice.
