FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BATH, ON, August 5, 2005 - At approximately 3:35 pm on August 3, 2005 staff at Bath Institution were advised by inmates that an inmate was requiring medical assistance. Staff responded immediately to the location and found inmate Brian Gerald Laurier in medical distress and proceeded to initiate CPR. Ambulance and additional medical support services were called immediately. The inmate was unresponsive to all medical assistance provided and was pronounced dead by the attending physician at approximately 4:30 pm on August 3, 2005.

Brian Laurier was 47 years old and was serving a life sentence for second degree murder. His sentence commenced on November 6, 1984.

In accordance with Correctional Service of Canada's policies an investigation and Coroner's Inquest are currently underway.
