FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, October 11, 2005 - At approximately 2050 hours on Monday, October 10, 2005, staff responding to an alarm discovered that an inmate had been the victim of a serious assault.

An ambulance was immediately called to transport the inmate to outside hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police have been notified and are investigating the assault.

The unit in which the assault occurred is presently locked down. Visits are continuing for part of the population and visitors are encouraged to call the institution to verify the visiting status of the inmate they wish to see.

The safety and security of our institutions is paramount and violence is not tolerated. CSC will be conducting an investigation into this incident.
