FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BATH, ON, October 26, 2005 - At approximately 0210 hours on October 26, staff conducting a routine range walk discovered inmate Rodney Jackpine in his cell, exhibiting no signs of life. Staff responded immediately and CPR was initiated. Emergency medical services were contacted and arrived at the Institution shortly thereafter. All efforts to resuscitate the inmate failed. The inmate was pronounced deceased at the Institution by the Coroner at 0540 hours.

Rodney Jackpine was a 33 year old federal recidivist, serving a 5 year sentence for sexual interference, assault and a number of property related offences. His sentence commenced June 28, 2005.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad and the Coroner had been on scene and will be conducting their respective investigations. The cause of death appears to have been a suicide.
