FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, November 8, 2005 - At approximately 2230 hours on Monday, November 7, 2005, it was discovered that an inmate had been the victim of a serious assault.

The inmate was transported to outside hospital where he remains.

The unit in which the assault occurred is presently locked down and a search has been initiated.

Visits have been cancelled.

Police have been notified and are investigating the assault.

The safety and security of our institutions is paramount and violence is not tolerated. CSC will be conducting an investigation into this incident.
