FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, January 17, 2006 - Due to the identified need to search a portion of the institution for contraband, Collins Bay Institution has been locked down to complete an exceptional search. Visits have been cancelled for the evening of Tuesday January 17, 2006.

Normal visiting hours are expected to resume upon completion of searching requirements. Visitors are requested to contact the institution prior to visiting.

The institution has been placed on modified routine for staff and inmates while the search is underway.

The safety and security of our institutions is paramount for the Correctional Service of Canada. Collins Bay will return to normal operations when searching is completed and the institution is secure.
