FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
KINGSTON, ON, February 6, 2006 - On February 6, 2006 at approximately 11:45 am a correctional officer responded to an inmate altercation on a range. In the course of this action, the officer was assaulted by two inmates who have since been identified and removed to the segregation unit. The officer incurred non-life threatening injuries and was taken to outside hospital via ambulance for treatment and assessment.
One inmate, who was the victim of the original assault, has been escorted to hospital for treatment.
The institution remains secure and is locked down at this time and visits are cancelled until further notice. Visitors are asked to call ahead to determine the status of the institution before coming to the site.
The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad is investigating the incident in accordance with CSC policy.
The safety and security of our institutions remains a paramount consideration and the Correctional Service of Canada will also be conducting an investigation into this incident.
