FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, March 17, 2006 - An exceptional search began today to search for weapons at Joyceville Institution. A recent notable increase in the seizures of homemade weapons resulted in a decision this morning to lock the institution down. Staff discovered 11 homemade weapons between March 13 and 17.

This search was initiated as a proactive measure to maintain the safety and security of the facility. No staff or offenders have been injured, and the institution is presently quiet and secure.

All visits to the facility are cancelled until further notice.
