FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, March 21, 2006 - The exceptional search for weapons that was initiated on March 17, 2006 at Joyceville Institution continues and is approximately one half complete at this time.

A total of 18 homemade weapons have been seized by staff during the exceptional search. These contraband items were found mostly in the living and common room areas.

Inmates living in cell blocks where searching has been completed are now allowed range and common room privileges as a step to move the facility back to a regular routine.

Visits will be reinstated Tuesday, March 21. Visitors are advised to call the facility before traveling for an update on the status of visitation.

The institution remains quiet and secure at this time.
