FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRAVENHURST , ON , June 9, 2006  -  On June 7, 2006 , at 1020 hours, an inmate approached staff at a control post and informed them he had assaulted another inmate in the Inuit Carving Shed. Staff immediately responded to the area and found the victim on the floor unconscious with an injury to his head. The victim was taken to outside hospital. He remains at outside hospital in stable condition. The instigator has been placed in segregation.

The Correctional Service of Canada has a zero tolerance policy for violence in its institutions. The Ontario Provincial Police were notified immediately and are conducting an investigation. CSC will also be conducting an investigation into this incident, in accordance with policy.
