FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, July 24, 2006 - On July 19, 2006 at approximately 14:55 hours an inmate was assaulted by another inmate after moving to a new range.

Staff acted quickly and the instigator was placed in segregation and is now awaiting transfer to higher security.

The victim was brought to hospital where he was treated for major injuries and later returned to the institution where he is in stable condition and expected to recover.

Police have been contacted and charges are pending.

The Correctional Service of Canada will be conducting an investigation into this incident.
