FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, August 3, 2006 - Joyceville Institution is currently locked down as a result of a number of incidents that have occurred including a serious staff assault, a number of brew related seizures and drug seizures. As a result an exceptional search of the prison has been authorized by the warden, in order to ensure the safety and security of the institution, staff members and inmates.

Visits are closed for Thursday, August 3, 2006. An update will be issued later today in regard to the visiting routine for Friday, August 4, 2006. Visitors are advised to phone Joyceville Institution prior to making travel arrangements to the institution.

The safety and security of our institutions is CSC's first priority. The institution will re-open once searching is complete and the warden is satisfied that it is safe to do so.
