FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGSTON, ON, August 25, 2006 - On Thursday, August 24, 2006 at approximately 6:30 p.m. an inmate at medium-security Collins Bay Institution was transferred to Kingston General Hospital by ambulance with a serious head wound. The inmate has been admitted for treatment. It is suspected that the inmate was assaulted. No suspects have been identified in this suspected assault at this time. No other inmates or staff incurred injuries from this incident.

The institution is operating on a regular routine. Both Correctional Service Canada and the Joint Forces Police/Corrections Investigation Unit-Penitentiary Squad will be conducting investigations into this incident.
