FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CAMPBELLFORD, ON, October 3, 2006 - At approximately 0240 hours on October 3, staff responded to a cell alarm and discovered inmate Martin Blackwind in his cell with a potentially life threatening injury. Ambulance was called immediately and the inmate taken to Campbellford Memorial Hospital. The Coroner pronounced Martin Blackwind dead at 0706 hours.

Martin Blackwind was a 52 year old offender, serving a 17 year sentence for manslaughter. His sentence commenced in February 2000.

The Correctional Service of Canada, the OPP Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad and the Coroner will be conducting their respective investigations.
